The Legendary Rummage Sale

The last weekend of every June the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club holds a Rummage Sale & Auction. It is held at a middle school and take up the entire campus (inside & out), it is from 8am -2pm and last year they raised $262,000 - it is HUGE!! Last year was my first year here for it and I made a decision that I was not going to go, I am really not a fan of garage sales and couldn't think of anything I really was in need of. Well, after hearing everyone talk about how awesome it was and how I couldn't not go I found myself (just me, Mir was in Mexico & Filipe was home asleep) at the school around 8:30am trying to find a bargain. I was completely amazed at the amount of stuff (and people) it was so much fun and I found out that there was some stuff I needed!
I am not even sure how to explain this to someone who has never been so this year, I was prepared and took pictures....

They have a preview the night before, you pay a dollar and you can walk through it and look at all of the stuff people will be trying to kill each other for the next morning. The picture above is clothes, you can fill up a paper grocery bag for $10, the picture doesn't really do it justice, the piles were way over my head when I was on the floor down there.

There isn't anything they don't have - tons of tents, lawnmowers, power tools, boats, cars, beds, doors, bathtubs, mirrors, fake flowers, bolts of material, furniture, washers, dryers, treadmills, etc. I can't say all of the stuff - it really is unbelievable.

They had this cool 1975 BMW motorcycle, I showed Filipe the picture and called Max about it but they both said no......I thought of Erin and her "what so & so is reading right now" on the blog - an entire bag of books for $12!!!!! Come on! So, the next morning I got Mir and her friend up at 6am! Even though we didn't need anything specific we were standing at the gates with the rest of the bargain seekers ready to go!

It was crazy and so much fun - I really don't know why I love it, but I do! The most fun is watching people - they get a little nutty when they find the perfect sofa for $25.00 or......
can get 2 -yes TWO- snowmobiles for $5.00!!! SERIOUSLY, FIVE BUCKS!!!
Mir and I spent a total of $55.00 and got (edited for Erin) a loveseat, a wicker bench (for the front porch), a bakers rack (for my pots on the back porch, 4 pairs of pants, 10 shirts, 1 pair of shoes, 1 purse, a dog bed, a cat bed, a cat tunnel, 2 flower pots & 2 plant stands - I think that is all! We had a fantastic time - too bad it is only once a year!
